  3. Soil Testing at Prescott Farm

    October 30, 2016, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Prescott Farm

Whether you are growing vegetables, flowers or simply caring for your lawn, proper soil is the key to good results. Every Sunday the the Prescott Farm Master Gardeners offer free soil analysis and advice on any gardening, lawn care, tree care or other questions you might have. Weather dependent. The historic 1812 windmill at Prescott Farm will be open the first Sunday of the month for tours during the Master Gardener hours. Take a soil sample: Using a clean trowel, scoop several small samples in each separate area of your property that you want to test. Take samples at 3-4" deep for lawn, 6-8" deep for vegetables and flowers and 12 -18" deep for fruit trees. Do not sample recently fertilized, limed or very wet soil. Take about one cup of soil and spread it on a piece of paper to dry overnight. Transfer the sample to a small zip-lock bag or envelope. Write your name and the type of plants you plan to grow on the bag and bring it to Prescott Farm for pH testing.
